My Previous IT Company Payslip Format
The payslip shown below is my own payslip. I am sharing it as a real-world example so that freshers, employees and job seekers can understand what an IT company salary slip looks like and what the different salary components mean.
Note: This is my own payslip. Personal information, employee identifiers and other private/confidential details have been removed or redacted before publication. The document is shared for educational and informational purposes. Payslip formats and salary components can vary between companies and employees.
What Is a Payslip?
A payslip, also called a salary slip, is a document that provides details of an employee's salary for a particular payroll period.
It generally shows the employee's earnings, allowances, deductions and the final amount payable.
For many employees, the payslip is useful for understanding how their monthly salary has been calculated and for maintaining a record of their employment income.
What Does an IT Company Payslip Contain?
The exact design of a payslip can differ between employers. Companies such as Wipro, TCS, Accenture, Infosys, Cognizant, HCLTech, Capgemini, LTIMindtree, Tech Mahindra and other IT companies may use different payroll systems and formats.
However, many salary slips contain similar categories.
Employee Details
The upper portion of a payslip may contain information such as:
Employee name
Employee ID
Designation
Department
Location
Salary month or pay period
Additional employment or payroll information may also be displayed depending on the company.
Earnings or Salary Components
The earnings section shows the different components that make up the employee's salary for that payroll period.
Basic Salary
Basic salary is a fixed component of compensation and is commonly used as one of the bases for calculating certain benefits or contributions, depending on the applicable rules and salary structure.
House Rent Allowance (HRA)
HRA, or House Rent Allowance, may form part of an employee's compensation structure.
The amount and tax treatment depend on the employer's salary structure and applicable tax rules.
Special Allowance
Special allowance is a compensation component used by many employers as part of their salary structure.
The amount and treatment can differ from one company to another.
Other Allowances
Depending on the organization and employee, the payslip may include other allowances or reimbursements.
These can vary according to the employee's role, location, company policy and compensation structure.
What Is Gross Salary?
Gross salary generally refers to the total earnings before applicable employee-side deductions.
It is important to understand that gross salary is not necessarily the same as monthly take-home salary.
The difference is mainly due to applicable deductions and other payroll adjustments.
Common Deductions Shown on a Payslip
The deductions section records amounts that are deducted from salary where applicable.
Provident Fund (PF)
Employee provident fund contributions may be deducted from salary according to the applicable rules and the employee's salary structure.
Professional Tax
Professional tax may apply depending on the employee's location and applicable state provisions.
The amount is not necessarily the same for every employee.
Income Tax / TDS
Income tax deducted through payroll may be shown as TDS or another tax-related entry.
The amount can depend on taxable income, applicable tax rules, declarations and payroll calculations.
Other Deductions
Other deductions may include applicable insurance-related charges, recoveries, loans, advances or other payroll adjustments.
What Is Net Salary or Take-Home Salary?
Net salary is generally the amount payable to the employee after applicable deductions have been taken into account.
This is the amount that an employee typically sees as the salary credited to the bank account, subject to the particular payroll arrangement.
A simple way to understand the relationship is:
Gross Salary − Applicable Deductions = Net Salary
The exact calculation can vary depending on the employee's salary structure and payroll adjustments.
CTC vs Gross Salary vs Take-Home Salary
One of the most common questions among IT employees and freshers is why the annual CTC mentioned in an offer letter is higher than the actual amount received every month.
The reason is that these terms represent different concepts.
CTC (Cost to Company): May include salary components, employer contributions, benefits and other costs associated with employing the person.
Gross Salary: Generally refers to salary earnings before applicable employee-side deductions.
Take-Home Salary: The amount payable after applicable deductions.
Therefore:
CTC ≠ Gross Salary ≠ Take-Home Salary
Candidates should always examine the detailed compensation structure instead of assuming that annual CTC divided by 12 will equal monthly bank credit.
Do All IT Companies Use the Same Payslip Format?
No.
The general purpose of a payslip is similar, but the appearance and terminology can vary.
For example, Wipro, TCS, Accenture, Infosys, Cognizant, HCLTech and other IT companies may use different payroll portals, different document layouts and different names for certain salary components.
Even within the same organization, payslip formats can change over time because of changes in payroll systems, compensation structures or internal processes.
That is why the payslip shown above should be considered a real-world example, not a universal format for every IT employee.
How to Read Your Monthly Payslip
When you receive your payslip, first check the salary month and employee details.
Next, review the earnings section and compare the listed salary components with your compensation structure.
Then review deductions such as provident fund, applicable taxes, professional tax and any other deductions.
Finally, check the gross salary and net salary.
If the amount credited to your bank account is different from what you expected, look for entries such as variable pay, arrears, unpaid leave, reimbursements, tax adjustments or other payroll changes.
Why Is a Payslip Important?
A payslip is useful as a monthly record of salary and payroll deductions.
Depending on the situation, employees may need salary documents for:
Loan or financial applications
Employment verification
Income records
Personal financial planning
Checking payroll calculations
Maintaining employment documentation
Employees should store their payslips securely because they may contain personal and financial information.
Can a Payslip Be Shared Online?
A person may choose to share their own payslip for educational or informational purposes, but it is important to check the document carefully before publishing it.
Remove or redact information such as:
Full personal address
Employee ID
Bank account details
PAN or other tax identifiers
UAN or similar identifiers
Personal phone number
Personal email address
QR codes or barcodes
Signatures
Other information that could expose private details
In this article, the payslip shown is my own document, and private information has been removed or redacted before publication.
My Reason for Sharing This Payslip
I am sharing my own payslip because many freshers and job seekers search online for examples of IT company salary slips.
A real-world example makes it easier to understand terms such as Basic Salary, HRA, Special Allowance, Gross Salary, Provident Fund, TDS and Net Salary than simply reading a list of definitions.
The purpose of this article is to explain the structure and terminology. It should not be used as a replacement for an employee's own official payroll records.
